Moreover, with my model, I wanted to make her also look very simplistic. Hence, I only put lipstick on her, but not so much cliche as the traditional japanese geishas', as I wanted her to look rather worn out and tired. In addition, I tried to get her into sleeping positions to enhance the irony and humour with the fabric/garment selection I made by using towels and dressing robes. Below are some examples of my shoot:
In regards to the shoot, I tried to work as efficiently to the theme as possible, whether that being the location, garment or model. I liked the idea of using marble as it had come from stone and was then made into tiles, along with the garment which originated from towels and bathing robes etc. Thus, they all tend to relate together with the theme with a slight hint of juxtaposition with textures. Not to mention, I also really liked the lighting reflection from my ceiling, which added a really interesting perspective to the photo itself. Plus, I also added more contrast to make the shoot look more tiring and subtle. However, I also did it because I know that particularly in Asia, such as Japan, they love people with pale skin, hence I made her skin look lighter to represent a "perfect" person from the perspective of the Japanese beauty culture. If I could have done anything differently, it probably would have been to have had the ideal set background, which would have been checkered because I think it would have had more perspective and ingenuity to the shoot to keep it as inciting as possible.
Overall, I really enjoyed this shoot and I think that I have a really good strong point/interest in this field of fashion, however I still enjoy the concept of designing garments and textiles more so. I also found an interest in research for this project with designers such as Comme des Garcons and Helmut Lang who had all used the same theme/process as what we have done, thus we have been working from a perspective of varies of industrial and creative design houses. From this project, I have learnt and enhances many more skills such as mannequin stand work, textile processes, manipulations, illustrations and much more. It is key to note that this work is all going towards my portfolio for next year's interviews and I would be absolutely ecstatic to continue working even harder than I am until the point. Furthermore, I am even more thrilled to start our next project 'Three Words' however it will be interesting to see if I have a certain sense of style or flow between all my works by the end of this term so that I can observe myself as an individual worker and designer.
