(Stand work, own photography)
These are some examples of stand work I created today whilst being in class. I felt that it was never too early to begin mannequin work as it will help me tremendously further down the line. I also created some sketches whilst I structured these mannequins and I will try make some collages using them to use another process within this project to enrich it further. From the mannequins shape, I tried to rip and shred the material to relate back to my mood board I created in the beginning of the project, thus representing the absence and loss within the mind. I am going to try to go to some exhibitions this weekend to try broaden my mind further and then I will see if I can create more stand work to relate to both these pre-made stand works and inspiration from the galleries and museums I will visit. On top of this, I also have the research trip I went on to Copenhagen in Denmark, which I will post about in due time.
Whilst I was constructing these mannequins, I was also thinking about fabrication and textures which I could consider for experimentation and processes which could then develop further for a final concept. (Organza, mesh, wire, foam etc…) If I could have done anything differently for this process of stand work, I would have probably tried to be a bit more intricate with the shredding and folding of the fabrics. I have been looking at magazine research and designers such as McQueen use a lot of similar fabrics for what I am looking into. Moreover, I am hoping to go see the ;Savage Beauty: Alexander McQueen' exhibition currently being held at the V&A soon to get even more research and inspiration for this project. I am happy that I was able to carry out this process of 3-D work to not only get more ideas, but to also work out of my book and I hope to get more into the routine of doing other things outside of my book to have different variations of work.
