On our day trip out, I didn't have much to help me with research so I decided to go to Berwick Street to get samples for my book. I didn't want to go too cliche with my selection, however I think I needed those to make my project clear from the beginning. I really enjoy going to Berwick St as it enables me to explore all the different fabric shops and get inspirations for materials and much more. From this, I managed to create some quick illustrations as to what I think a collection could look like. It was a shame that none of the museums around me had much American Heritage art as I would have been able to get deeper research and perhaps even had produced some sketches, but most of the American Art I researched was in storage. I would have loved to have produced a garment for this project, but I will just have to do what I did for the last project and create a design board.
Further along the project, I plan to make some samples in development to my project to strengthen and expand on my project mediums. Moreover, I really want to start making work on the stands to get out of my book and work on a large 3-D scale, which should help me understand and develop more on the shape of the construction to produce more designs. If I could have done anything differently, it would have been to produce more designs but as this was only quick sketches, I felt that not many were needed at this point of time. Despite this, I will need to produce much more sketches and illustrations for this project as it is focusing on detail and I will need to try and create as many as I possibly can to create a capsule collection revolving around my theme of "Cowboy's" during the 1810-30's era.
Despite not being able to see much art work from the day trip, I did manage to go to a fancy dress shop along my way and managed to take some pictures of Cowboy outfits and accessories. It turned out that I wasn't actually allowed to take photos within the shop, which is ridiculous! But I managed to anyway. I thought that this was a really fun trip to go on as I finally found a niche that works well with my project. The shop itself had various amounts of costumes and the Cowboy attire was very cliche as you could imagine with the spurs, cowboy hats, bandannas, boots, utility belts, guns and much more. I will now need to carry out further research into the more traditional wear and then focus on the details on the garment then use them to create something new and original.
